Description
Offered here is a Pritchard Photometer serial # C956 made circa 1981 in Burbank CA, cost almost 000 new (when that was the price of a new luxury car). I expect any buyer would be already more familiar with these than I am (or a fast learner}, but I will make an effort to describe it...Photometer seems to work fine, but I cannot offer NIST traceable cal on it. If you need it calibrated, you should contact KLight Labs in the Los Angeles, California area.
It is wired for 115Vac. If you plan to use it at 230V, you need to go inside to rewire transformer primaries (no simple switch like on Tek scopes). The first photo where it is aimed at a screen was for a previously sold unit that had the PL (pulsed light capable) option. The remaining photos are of serial C956 offered here now which does not have any options (comes with normal OL7 7" objective lens).
These photometers internally look like a single lens reflex camera. They have a photomultiplier detector where the film would sit and a 45 degree mirror to divert (fork) image to viewfinder. The mirror rotates into one of 6 positions where each has a different size (acceptance angle) hole to pass central light to detector and all the rest to the viewfinder. Aiming in the viewfinder is made easy as the hole passing light to the detector looks like a central black hole (of different sizes as selected) in the viewfinder. The 5 default sizes are 2 minutes (of arc), 6 minutes, 20 minutes, 1 degree, and 3 degrees. (just for reference our Moon represents about half a degree). Before the light can reach the detector it can be passed thru several filters: photopic (simulates human eye color vision response), horizontal polarizer, vertical polarizer, red, blue, neutral density of divide by ten, hundred, a thousand, or ten thousand (to extend detector's sensitivity range from moonlight to sunlight). For detector calibration check (can vary with temperature) there is an internal phosphorescent source excited by decay of a small dose of C14 (half life of 5700 years, so quite stable over a human lifespan). If you are buying from another country, besides the 230V issue, I hope your Customs don't freak out at the 50 microCuries of C14 inside.
Please make sure Ebay has your current correct ship-to address before paying, as that is where I am required to ship. Mistakes are costly to fix after paying as I cannot offer cash refunds, so please go over details before paying. I ship worldwide. Ebay requires I ship with a carrier that provides tracking & delivery confirmation, which Airmail cannot provide internationally, so that rules Airmail out. Ebay has its own Global Shipping Program that offers decent tracking and reasonable rates to many countries. To countries not in EGSP, FEDEX usually offers me the best alternatives.
Ebay as a large e-commerce site, now has to collect sales tax for many of the 50 States. I have no control over that, and I do not charge sales tax on my own out-of-California sales (I am small). If you are outside California and do not feel like paying a large tax, buy something cheap(er) from me first (eg: a probe) and a workaround will present itself. Also, I cannot offer cash refunds (but only store credit) because of differing definitions of "full refund" between Ebay and its payment platforms. One considers full refund to be all you paid; the other considers full refund to be return of all I got. The difference is the fees, shipping, and sales tax that I never see, and I can't "go into the hole" for you to return more than what I got. Another reason is because the money is spent almost as soon as I get it. Please buy prudently, asking questions first.
DISCOUNT on a 2nd item: If you pay BIN price, I will offer you a 10% DISCOUNT on next purchase. If you want the 10% discount on this item, buy a cheaper item from me first. You may also be able to skip tax on a 2nd purchase.
